Be Incorporated Appoints General Manager for its Web Appliance
Business
MENLO PARK, Calif.-November 2, 1999-Be ® Incorporated
(Nasdaq:BEOS), developer of BeOS®, the operating system designed for
digital media applications, today announced the appointment of Steve
Sakoman, as its general manager for its web appliance business. In
this role, Sakoman, a co-founder of Be, Inc., will be responsible
for setting the Company's direction and developing strategic
relationships in the rapidly expanding web appliance market.
While Sakoman retains his current position as Chief Technology
Officer, he now brings his leadership and experience with the
Company to the web appliance business. He joined the Company as vice
president of engineering, from Apple Computer where he was director
of CPU development managing the hardware group, which was
responsible for the Macintosh and Apple II product lines.
Subsequently, Sakoman started and managed Apple's Newton development
team. Also, he was with Silicon Graphics where he was the director
of the Consumer Products & Technologies Group, which included
the Nintendo 64 project. Before that, Sakoman worked at
Hewlett-Packard where he was the project manager for the industry's
first battery powered portable MS-DOS PC, the HP-110.
"I have a long-term working relationship with Steve and am
excited to see him lead our efforts in this burgeoning market," said
Jean-Louis Gassée, president and chief executive officer of Be, Inc.
In a related matter, Roy Graham, executive vice president, sales
and marketing for Be, Inc. is leaving the Company. The marketing and
sales teams for the web appliance business will now report directly
to Sakoman.
